The tourist district is an important tool for territorial governance of regional tourism. The district is a type of Local System which is characterized by its multidimensionality, as well as the spatial contiguity of traders who belong to it. The territory is a space transformed by social interactions and relations of production: it is therefore the indispensable reference for measuring the impact of tourism. Detection of local tourism systems by threshold accepting

Despite the importance of tourism as a leading industry in the development of a country’s economy, there is a lack of criteria and methodologies for the detection, promotion, and governance of local tourism systems. We propose a quantitative approach for the detection of local tourism systems the size of which is optimal with respect to geographical, economic, and demographical criteria: we formulate the problem as an optimisation problem and we solve it by a metaheuristic approach; then we compare the obtained results with standard clustering approaches and with an exact optimisation solver. The present paper aims to compare the image of the eco-tourist across languages and cultures, Canadian and Italian. An ad-hoc comparable corpus has been created from the official websites of National Parks which represent a kind of eco-tourist destination. The analysis attempts to trace a profile of Canadian and Italian eco-tourists Drawing upon the Functional Grammar (Halliday 1985) and addresses issues connected with Hall’s model (1983): Are Canadian and Italian ecotourism discourses shaped by their own cultural orientation, or do they attempt to speak in the tongue of the displaced tourist?

In Italy, the recent constitutional reforms have given regional administrations an increasing weight over government and tourism regulation. Therefore, observing the regions' Strategic Plans represents a valuable model for understanding the Italian tourist reality. For this reason, the article proposes a comparison of the tourist planning documents of the Italian regions, recalling indicators extracted from the paper of the UNWTO - World Tourism Organization - on the policies and objectives of spatial tourism planning.
